As
the audience enter the hall, the two performers dressed as caretaker
characters act as ushers and welcome the children. Once everyone is
seated the caretakers exit the performance area and the intro music
plays.
The show starts with quiz show host, Johnnie Streetwise's grand entrance
and his introduction of the not very streetwise contestant Joe Public.
The audience are asked to play the role of the other contestant and
help Joe to get streetwise. Using numbered juggling balls and a moving
message screen Johnnie explains the 6 main points of the Green
Cross Code.
Round 1 is a multiple choice round where Johnnie
asks Joe and the audience about safe and dangerous locations to cross
the road.
Round 2 is a lottery round where a volunteer is picked from
the audience to assist. The numbered balls are juggled, simulating a
lottery machine and then thrown one at a time into the lottery ball
collector (bucket!) held by the volunteer. As each ball is caught Joe
helps the audience to remember what each number represents in the Green
Cross Code.
Round 3 is the highly interactive Road Sense/Nonsense round.
Johnnie asks both Joe and the audience multiple choice questions about
general road safety and the audience has to decide whether the answers
are Road Sense or Nonsense.
Round 4 is the cycling round. Johnnie quizzes the children
about aspects of cycling safety including helmets, reflective clothing,
lights and general cycling proficiency. Then Joe and Johnnie go for
a hilarious bike ride on unicycles with separate handle bar and front
wheel sets.
Round 5 is the final round where the audience and performers
go over what they have learnt. Johnnie
and Joe pass six juggling clubs to simulate traffic whilst a volunteer
and the audience are asked to remember the 6 main points of the Green
Cross Code so that the volunteer can safely cross the road when
the traffic (juggling) stops.
Of course the show just isn't over until Johnnie and Joe perform the
Streetwise Road Safety Song and dance.
